I Resolve To™ . . . Build Habits That Benefit The Environment, One Small Action At A Time, One Day At A Time! - Day 179

It's Friday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.  In 2008 my New Year Givetheboot Resolution is to 'show gratitude' for my blessings by 'giving back' and the environment is one of my recipients.  I dedicate three columns each week to news, information and ideas about small, daily steps we can take to reduce our Carbon Footprints.  Consider the huge, positive, long-range impact on the environment if each one of us performs 'habitual' actions - like driving fewer vehicle miles, using more energy efficient light bulbs, and turning off lights when we leave rooms.  My goal, as an individual, is to urge others to follow my lead, and take a few small steps each and every day toward protecting the environment.

We're reaching that half-way point in the year, why not use it as an opportunity to brainstorm ways that you can do something that benefits the environment this summer . . . one small action at a time, one day at a time.  You don't need to make major lifestyle changes, change your world overnight.  Why not start small, think of simple, easy things that you can do each day.  Need some inspiration?  Here's some food for thought from one of my favorite websites, The Quote Garden . . .

"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money."  Cree Indian Proverb

"You can't be suspicious of a tree, or accuse a bird or a squirrel of subversion or challenge the ideology of a violet."   Hal Borland, Sundial of the Seasons, 1964

There's so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our lungs there'd be no place to put it all. "  Robert Orben

"Suburbia is where the developer bulldozes out the trees, then names the streets after them. "   Bill Vaughn, quoted in Jon Winokur, The Portable Curmudgeon, 1987

"For 200 years we've been conquering Nature.  Now we're beating it to death."   Tom McMillan, quoted in Francesca Lyman, The Greenhouse Trap, 1990

"I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority."  Elwyn Brooks White, Essays of E.B. White, 1977

Turn your resolution into reality in five simple, common sense steps:  Dare To Dream, Decide, Define, Develop A Plan, and Do It Daily. I Resolve To™ . . . Be Conscious Of My Words, Actions & Deeds Today! - Day 178

One kind word.  One smile.  One thoughtful deed.  One small action that helps someone.  One gesture that brightens a person's day.  It doesn't take much to 'do good' - to be nice to others.  The little things in life count as much - and sometimes more - than the big things.  Don't worry about changing the world overnight, or dramatically altering your lifestyle and habits.  When you do one small thing over and over, Iresolvetobenice_2 day after day, it really adds up over time.  Today, 'think one' . . . be kind 'once' and see where it leads.

It's Thursday - Tip-Day for PreMeditated Acts of Kindness.  My 2008 resolution is to 'Show Gratitude' for my blessings by 'Giving Back'. The point behind PreMeditated Acts Of Kindess is to give more conscious thought to my actions, the way that I treat others - and the way that I treat 'myself'.  In 2008 I am urging folks to join me and do the same - to work at being kind because it's the right thing to do, without worrying about receiving anything in return, be it kind gesture or word, though my experience is that kindness shown is usually returned in kind.

To get you in the 'kindnes groove' I offer these warm words of inspiration from Wisdom Quotes:

"The little unremembered acts of kindness and love are the best parts of a person's life."  William Wordsworth

"Kindness is more important than wisdom, and the recognition of this is the beginning of wisdom."  Theodore Rubin

"One isn't necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can't be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest."  Maya Angelou

I Resolve To™ . . . Surf For New Ideas About How To Reduce My Carbon Footprint! - Day 177

It's Wednesday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.  As promised, I'm Givetheboot_3 starting a new round of research about ways to reduce my Carbon Footprint.  In 2008 my New Year Resolution is to 'show gratitude' for my blessings by 'giving back' and the environment is one of my recipients.

If you want to fulfill a cherished dream, keep a New Year Resolution, and achieve daily goals - a key ingredient to success is 'education'.  You have to work hard to educate yourself about all the many steps that are necessary to making your dream a reality - and to build a short and long-range plan that will take you from beginning to end of journey.  Also keep in mind, the education process doesn't end when you build your initial plan.  The education process continues throughout your journey, and your plan is a living document that changes and grows as you learn and grow.

Since January 1, I have posted a wide array of websites and news articles that contain valuable information about 'what Global Warming is', and 'how Climate Change is impacting our lives and the environment'.  Those posts, websites and news articles have also contained valuable information about 'tactics' - small steps and daily goals that each one of us can take that will benefit the environment (most of which do not call for dramatic, immediate changes in lifestyle, but rather small changes in ordinary daily habits).

Now, as we near the second half of 2008, I'm starting 'Round Two' in my effort to learn more about what I can do to reduce my Carbon Footprint, and to educate others, at the same time.  As food for for thought, here is a fresh list of useful websites with more to come soon . . .

I Resolve To™ . . . Make An Extra Effort To Be Kind On A Bad Day! Day 176

Each one of us has a bad day every now and then . . . a day in which everything just seems to go Iresolvetobekind_2 wrong.  Or perhaps a mediocre day, one in which everything is just blah and there doesn't seem to be much sunshine, joy and laughter.  On those challenging days it is easy to fall into a state of 'crabbiness' - a frown replaces your marvelous smile, and a kind word, or deed, is the farthest thing from your mind.  On those grey days, perhaps it is more important than ever to truly be conscious of your words and actions, so that you're not hurting others, and yourself, by wallowing in sadness.  Rather than focusing on the negative when life becomes a bit of a struggle, why not work doubly hard to be positive - and triple your efforts to be kind to others?  A smile of gratitude just might turn your frown right side up!

It's Tuesday - Tip-Day for PreMeditated Acts of Kindness.

In late May, I had major surgery for an unexpected medical condition.  I work hard to take care of my health.  I exercise, eat healthy food, strive for balance, and work to relax (as much as possible).  I thank the Lord that I've been blessed with good health throughout my life and, I admit, I didn't know what to expect from my surgery and recovery.  Fortunately, things are going very well and and I am speeding toward full recovery.  That said, I've had my ups and downs as I've been forced to slow down, sit still, and put a wide array of daily activities 'on hold'.  Some days I just haven't felt all that great.  "And yes, I have had my crabby, less than positive moments."

When I fall into a state of crabbiness, negativity and self-pity I really feel it.  I'm fully aware of my mood and attitude.  Sometimes it's really tough to shift mood and attitude - it's not like flipping a light switch.  Sometimes improving a bad mood feels like pushing a boulder uphill.  But when you are fully conscious and aware that you have fallen into a foul mood, that knowledge can prompt the first step toward a happier, more positive attitude.  As you make that 'first step' why not count your blessings? Why not think about all that is going right in your life rather than dwelling on problems large and small.  You might not be able to solve those problems immediately, it might take hard work and an abundance of time, but you can change your attitude right now if you so choose.

After you've made a decision to shift to a positive mode of being, and you've counted your blessings - perhaps the next step might be to offer a kind word, a nice gesture, or a bit of help to someone who is less fortunate than you . . . or someone who, like you, is just having a bad day.  You just might 'make that person's day' and, in turn, brighten your own day.  After all - you shifted a crabby, negative attitude to a positive brighter outlook (one that could help you to tackle your challenges one by one) - and you made someone else smile.  What could be better than that?!

    I Resolve To™ . . . Do Some Multi-Tasking For Myself & The Environment! Day 175

What is one small habit that you can build into your daily life that will benefit both you and the environment?  The answer is so simple and so obvious that it is easy to overlook - at the same time it is easy to achieve if you set your mind to it!  Why not 'give it a go' today?  It's never too early or too late to make and keep a New Year Resolution.  Here at IResolveTo.Com, we preach about making every day New Year's Day - a new blank page on which you can write your life story. In this case, this one small resolution can make a huge difference for both you and the environment:  Bring your lunch to work each day!

It's Monday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.

So, "how," you ask, will bringing your lunch benefit both you and the environment.  I firmly believe in multi-tasking when it comes to my dreams, resolutions, and daily goals because they blend together to create the rich, unique tapestry that is my life.  For instance, one of my Lifetime Resolutions is to exercise daily, while my 2008 resolution is to 'show gratitude by giving back'.  I'm raising money by walking 60-miles in the Washington, DC Breast Cancer 3-Day in October.  That one resolution is helping me to 'give back' and to 'exercise daily' - multi-tasking my way to success!

Let me give you 5 reasons why bringing your lunch is a good, healthy habit to build into your daily routine, and a great way to multi-task toward achievement:

    1. If pack a small re-usable cooler and avoid fast food joints during your mid-day break you can reduce your Carbon Footprint by eliminating food wrapper waste in your local landfill!
    2. If you spend 5-minutes in the morning bagging your lunch you can reduce stress.  Instead of spending half your lunch hour waiting in line for food, you can grab your lunch-pail, a good book and a bench in your favorite park, and in turn, enjoy a nice calm, relaxing break.
    3. If you do a little planning before and during your grocery shopping you can purchase the kind of healthy, wholesome food - including fruits and and vegetables - that will enable you to shave inches off your waist and thighs, and pounds off your figure, particularly if you combine healthy eating habits with a good brisk walk to and from your lunchtime venue!
    4. If you are reducing stress, cutting unwanted pounds, lowering your blood pressure, increasing your exercise and relaxation - you stand to improve your overall health - and do it by just making one small change that takes five minutes in the morning, packing your lunch!
    5. If you're spending less money on daily fast food you're putting more money into your own pocket (and perhaps even your savings account).  Consider this:  If you spend $10.00 each day for fast food and coffee, and instead purchase food and drinks for $5.00 that you will brown-bag, you will save $50 each week, and an incredible $2,450 in a 49 week work-year!

So, why not 'give it a go'?  What do you have to lose?  By creating this one new habit, which takes as little as 5-minutes in the morning, you could improve your life and the environment in 'five incredible ways!'

Remember:  I Resolve To . . . Achieve My New Year Resolutions, One Resolution, One Day At A Time For One Year.  It's your choice.  Do it today. Turn your resolution into reality in five simple, common sense steps:  Dare To Dream, Decide, Define, Develop A Plan, and Do It Daily. Make your resolution a permanent Lifetime Resolution, something that's with you for good!  Above all, Be A Resolutionista, someone who makes resolutions, keeps resolutions, and enjoys the journey!  Let's Go For It!

    I Resolve To™ . . . Plan! - Day 174

Each one of us has dreams.  They come in all shapes and sizes, each one unique to the individual Iresolvetopossibility dreamer.  Most folks start dreaming as youngsters when 'anything is possible' . . . long before life's hard knocks turn what was once thought to be 'achievable', into the 'impossible dream'.  So, as we age, how to keep those cherished dreams alive?  It helps to doggedly, stubbornly maintain faith, hope, and determination.  Odds of success increase exponentially when a dreamer believes in himself/herself and the dream - and when the dreamer is willing to work hard, taking one small step at a time, one day at a time, for a lifetime.

If you truly want to 'achieve' a dream, a New Year Resolution, a daily goal you have to truly want to 'do it' - and be devoted for the long haul.  If you just want to 'check' your dream off a list and move on, you're probably wasting your time.  If you truly want to succeed - to live your dream - you must habitually make that dream part of your daily life for good.

So, where to begin?  What to do first, second, third?  That's where a lot of folks get stuck.  They simply don't know how to make that dream a reality.  They don't have a plan - a system - that will guide them through their journey.  If you're not the most organized person, or don't know much about planning, don't get discouraged.  Don't give up before you even begin.  Give yourself some credit.  If you take stock of your life, you've already chalked up a long list of wins and successes:  Good grades at school, a diploma and/or college degree, sports victories, a job well done at work, children that make you shine with pride . . . and on and on.  Do an inventory of your skills, background, knowledge, and achievements.  Then give yourself a pat on the back and some well earned credit.

So, again, where to begin if you want to pursue your dream?  You don't need a degree in 'Strategic Planning' to follow your dream.  You do need to be open-minded, focused, and willing to try new things without fear of failing.  As a starting point, consider the I Resolve To . . . Formula For Success. It's a simple, common sense way to begin the process:  Start with a cherished dream, one in which you have enormous desire and interest.Turn that dream into a specific, one-sentence resolution that clearly states your intention. Make that resolution a reality with daily goals that can be achieved one at a time, one day at a time.

Resolve To . . . Formula For Success:

Dream  + Resolution + Daily Goals  =  Success, Achievement  &  Reward!

When considering New Year Resolutions and mulling plans for dreams and goals, folks often make things harder than they need to be. Rather than drafting that long, tired list of resolutions that we think we 'should' make - the 'Sins' - why not make just one resolution. Make one resolution about which you have true desire, passion and interest. Forget about that long laundry list of resolutions that you make and fail to keep, year after year. That decision alone increases your odds of success exponentially. Embarking on the journey with clarity of purpose, a dream about which you have great interest and passion, and a systematic process removes nagging questions and doubt about 'what to do first' and 'what to do next'.

I advocate pursuing one resolution, one day at a time for one year because it has worked so well for me, year after year. Throughout my life I have made dreams and resolutions a reality by following this simple, common sense approach. I long ago made a commitment, a promise to myself, to stop smoking, to exercise daily, write, build a business, excel at photography, earn college degrees, own a home, and work from my home. Those are just a few of my dreams, my Lifetime Resolutions. I don't believe in making resolutions and checking them off my list. I make them and keep them with me for good.

A key to my success is that I pursue just one life-changing dream, and make just one major resolution Iresolvetodo at a time. To do otherwise is a recipe for quick failure. Our lives are packed full of activities as it is, it's no wonder that we don't have ambition or energy to tackle a long list of changes that we think we 'should make' because that's what folks do in the New Year. It's not surprising that most people abandon their Resolution list - diet, exercise, save, stop smoking, stop drinking - after days or weeks. The list exists, but the passion, commitment, and desire is sorely lacking. Personally I believe the most popular resolutions are great ways to improve lives, but without true heartfelt desire for change, a resolution is nothing more than an empty promise.

This year can be different, but you must have the desire to make it so. Don't abandon the practice of making New Year Resolutions - change the paradigm! Think outside the box. Don't be afraid to color with a red crayon instead of the same blue one you always use. Be a Resolution Revolutionary: change the way you think about and approach dreams, resolutions and goals. Keep it simple and realistic.  Start with my I Resolve To . . . Formula For Success, then follow the I Resolve To . . . System For Success.  The Do's and Don'ts are easy to use, easy to understand, and great for busy people.

    I Resolve To . . . System For Success - The Do's:

    • Dare To Dream: Open your mind and consider all the wonderful possibilities. Find a quiet spot where you can relax and daydream with your journal. Make a list of the 100 things that you would truly love to do, be, see, feel, create, experience, learn, achieve, and have while you're here on earth - your Lifetime Resolution List. Focus like a laser on the one dream that most inspires you, makes you excited and nervous at the same time. Focus on the one that you will want to pursue day after day, the one that would make you happy and proud.
    • Decide: Make a firm decision, a personal commitment, a promise to yourself to pursue that dream today; to make it a Lifetime Resolution that is with you for good. Why fulfill a dream, then check it off your list? Why not achieve it, keep it with you, and enjoy it for life!  Achieve it, then take it to the next level.  Use what you've learned to inspire and invigorate you - to launch you toward achieving new dreams and resolutions.
    • Define: Turn that dream into a specific, positive, one-sentence resolution that provides clarity of purpose. For instance, I Resolve To exercise for 30-minutes daily by walking, working out with weights, swimming, doing Yoga, and biking, so that I can reach and maintain my my ideal weight (i.e. 125 pounds), be fit and toned (i.e. look good in my clothes, and feel good about myself), be healthy (i.e. lower my cholesterol and blood pressure), and maintain a good mood and positive outlook.
    • Develop A Plan: Do your homework. Learn all you can about the 'who, what, when, where, why, and how' of your dream, then turn that knowledge into written short and long-range plans that include daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals, timelines, and milestones, along with a system of making course corrections, and rewarding victories. Keep a Daily Resolution Diary and do Daily and Weekly Check-Ins. Your plan is a living document that will grow and change as you grow, learn and change.
    • Do It Daily!: Each and every day take one small step - achieve at least one goal - that will enable you to make your dream, your resolution a reality. Try to devote at least 30-minutes each day to your dream. If you devote just 30-minutes each day to your dream that adds up like compound interest on money in the bank to 7.5 full 24-hour days in one year! Tell your friends and family and enlist their support. Find buddies who can make the journey with you. Seek out a mentor who can provide advice. Join a club or take a class to learn new things that will lend motivation and inspiration to your quest. Wear your resolution on your shirt, and plant a post-it on your computer, your mirror, your refrigerator - anyplace that will provide frequent reminders.

As you plot your course, don't forget to consider the obstacles - all the many things that can go wrong, or will stand in the way of progress, including obstacles of our own making like pessimism, a bad attitude, lack of faith, hope, determination, and an unwillingness to work hard.

    I Resolve To . . . System For Success - The Don'ts:

    • Procrastinate: Put an end to the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome'. Do It Today. Stop waiting for tomorrow. Take action, one small step today, another one tomorrow, and another one the next day. Get rid of the guilt caused by doing nothing. The smallest steps can energize you and build lasting momentum. Sometimes 'just showing up' is all you need to do. Get off the couch, put on your tennis shoes and head for the tennis court. Fire up the computer and write the next page in your novel. Your best effort may surface on the days you feel least motivated.  Get busy!
    • Give Into Fear Of Success Or Fear Of Failure: Embrace your fears and your mistakes. Understand them, learn from them, so you can overcome them and move forward with confidence. Obstacles will appear like dandelions on a Spring day at times. Identify the potential obstacles and prepare for them. Knowledge is power and it will help you to move past your obstacles and fears. Don't sabotage yourself by self-limiting behaviors. A little daily introspection can go a long way. Think about what you're doing and why you're doing it - if you're getting in your own way, figure out a way around.  Don't live passively.  Don't sleepwalk through your day.  Make conscious choices!
    • Get Overwhelmed Or Discouraged: Give yourself the gift of time to achieve your dream and make your resolution a reality. Pursue your resolution one small step - one goal - one day at a time for one year. There will be many days in which you are 'Overtaken By Events - OBE'.  That's a common part of life.  If you have a rough day today, know tomorrow is right around the corner.  Flexibility and a willingness to adapt will enable you to roll with the punches, and change and improve your long and short range plans.  Patience, passion and persistence will get you through those bleak, rough days. Know when it's time to lower the bar just a little and reduce expectations. When you're feeling down, pull out your journal and review all your victories. Reward yourself, often, for successes and milestones.
    • Grow Bored, Weary Or Burned Out: Set a realistic pace and be realistic about your goals - what you can actually achieve by a specific date. Remember you don't have to reach the top of the mountain overnight. Novels aren't written in a day, college degrees take years to earn, getting in shape takes weeks and months. In short, dreams take time and hard work that's why it's so important to commit to a resolution that you would absolutely love to achieve. You have to want to spend time working on it each and every day.  Your dream needs to become a positive habit in your life - a routine part of your day.  You need 'fire in the belly' to keep the momentum going. As you progress vary your activities to keep things interesting, take breaks, and be kind to yourself.  Activities and tasks often take longer than you would hope or anticipate.
    • Give Up!:  Keep track of your successes - your hard won victories - and use them to fuel the fire of your passion and to motivate yourself on both the good and bad days. Keep your eye on the prize and know in time you will succeed. Faith, hope, and optimism will see you through. If you're feeling pessimistic and hopeless - rather than give up - take a vacation from your dream, resolution and daily goals. Rest, relax and take care of yourself, but be sure to schedule a specific date to 'restart' and know what your next 10 steps will be.

    I Resolve To™ . . . Make The Most Of The Next 193 Days! - Day 173

Do you know where your New Year Resolutions are?  Maybe it's time to pull them out of the dust bin and Iresolvetorevolutionary give them a little attention this weekend.  Instead of lazing in front of the television, or doing chores and home projects the entire weekend, why not carve out a little quality time for your dreams, resolutions and daily goals.  All too often folks wait until 'just the right time' to devote attention to their dreams.  They fall victim to the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome'.  The problem is that 'Someday . . .' just never rolls around, leading to a life filled with regrets.  Instead of regret, why not strive for reward and fulfillment?  Why not make your dream the priority that it deserves to be - put it front and center in your life starting right now!

Personally, I like to spend at least 30-minutes-to-an-hour on my dreams, resolutions and goals each and every day.  I do daily and weekend Check-Ins, chart my progress in my Daily Resolution Diary, review my timelines, and make course corrections when necessary.  Most importantly, I work hard to tackle at least one task - one goal - every day, which helps to keep the forward momentum going, and keeps me interested and enthusiastic.  I love putting a check mark in front of tasks on my 'Things To Do List'.  It means I have moved one step closer to fulfilling my dream, keeping my resolution, and achieving my daily goals.

In 2008, I made a personal commitment to 'show gratitude for all that I have and all that I am by giving back in four areas of my life'

    1. Walk 60 miles for the Washington, DC Breast Cancer 3-Day and raise $3000.
    2. Volunteer at a Virginia Horse Rescue Farm.
    3. Learn more about how to combat Global Warming and take action!
    4. Engage in PreMeditated Acts Of Kindness.

I'm happy to say, despite recent surgery for an unexpected medical condition, I am making steady progress with my daily goals.  Here's the status of my efforts this week:

    1. While I can't exercise, I am walking again - yesterday I walked two miles!  I'm looking forward to getting back to my original 'starting point for training' which was five miles, and will work my way upward (in daily miles) from there, so that I can walk 20 miles each day for three days during the October Breast Cancer 3-Day.  My second fundraising note went out and is drawing donations from friends, family and colleagues (Thank You!).  I'm 76% of the way to hitting my goal of $3000 - and my team will hit my goal of $5000+.  Next steps are to buy the gear that I need for camping and walking, in July-August.
    2. Volunteering at a Virginia Horse Rescue Farm is shifting to the Fall due to stamina and exercise issues.
    3. My Global Warming resolution is on track.  I'm posting, researching, learning, and most importantly doing.  I have my summer 'Things To Do List', which I am working 'daily'.  Next week, I start a a new effort aimed at researching 'fresh ideas' for helping the environment.
    4. PreMeditated Acts of Kindness - a daily effort to be conscious about my words, gestures and actions (how I treat others and myself) is on track.  It is becoming a habit to be much more conscious of what I am saying and doing - and to try to insert more kindness toward others into each and every day.  Next step is to brainstorm new creative ways to reach out to folks, lend a hand and 'be kind'.  Rather than leaving 'kindness' to chance with random acts - I'm really making an effort to 'stay conscious' all the time!

I'm happy with my progress and in July-August, I'm looking forward to finishing and launching my I Resolve To . . . E-Book (inspirational essays); working on an inspirational calendar, new product designs, and a video.  So much to do, but it is so worth it!

I Resolve To™ . . . Do A Progress Report On My Summertime 'To Do List' For The Environment! - Day 172

It's June 21, we are just one day past the Summer Solstice - the longest day of the year - and that means that we still have 194 days left in 2008!  I like to take a 'half-full glass' view of the world, rather than a 'half-empty glass' perspective.  With that in mind, there is plenty of time to either revive those New Year Resolutions that are buried someplace on your desk or, better yet, to pump up the volume, and intensify efforts to make dreams, resolutions, and daily goals a reality in the next six months!

It's Friday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.  In 2008 my New Year Resolution Iresolvetolivegreen is to 'show gratitude' for my blessings by 'giving back' and the environment is one of my recipients.

Personally, I have my summer 'Things To Do List' for the environment - and I'm happy to say I'm making steady progress one small step at a time:

    1. Order I Resolve To . . . Canvas Tote Bags to take to the grocery store (less plastic!).  Update:  I have seven brand new Tote Bags for my trips to the grocery store!
    2. Recycle Magazines - I'm happily working through my stacks and will donate to worthy organizations and groups.  Update:  I'm working to identify organizations, friends and 'others' who can use my magazines, and plan to start delivering them in July.
    3. Walk and Metro more, and drive less, when I am in Washington, D.C.  Update:  I'm actually driving very little, and walking quite a bit, due to my surgery;  plan to keep that up in July and August both in Fredericksburg and
    4. Promote Keep America Beautiful in an effort to urge people NOT TO LITTER!  Update:  I've done one column and have a link to the KAB website on my blog, but need to brainstorm other ways to give KAB a hand; work in progress.
    5. Review my EarthLab Promises - a great website that provides great ideas for reducing your Carbon Footprint, and offers a way to track the promises/goals you make.  UpdateThis is on-going, work in progress - I review my promises once each week.
    6. Do more research on recycling.  UpdateI begin a new round of research next week.
    7. Create ways to recycle at home even though I cannot get trash haulers to send 'recycle trucks' to my home in the country.  UpdateNeed to find new ways of using less paper, plastic, etc - and continue research about ways to recycle.
    8. Research and write columns about the 'end' of Incandescent light bulb, which will be phased out in 2012 under a 2007 energy law passed by Congress.  Done:  Did my research and posted a column, June 6th.
    9. Redouble my efforts to conserve energy at home:  lights, computers, appliances, etc.  Update:  This is a work in progress, on-going.
    10. Begin brainstorming and researching steps I can take in the Fall when I finish this list!  Update: I begin this new effort next week, and will be posting new links, articles, and websites that have useful information about ways that we can help the environment!

If you want to fulfill a dream, keep a New Year Resolution, or achieve daily goals it helps to have a specific resolution, to do your homework, build a plan, write things down in a daily journal, create a timeline with deadlines for tasks, and do daily and weekly Check-Ins.  If you want more ideas for ways to stay on track visit the I Resolve To . . . Happiest Day Of Year - Cliff Arnall Formula

Today, June 20th - the Summer Solstice, and longest day of the year - is also the happiest day of the year according to a UK academic who researched and created a formula that assesses 'happiness'.  A Telegraph article posted this morning, describes Cliff Arnall, a psychologist and former tutor at Cardiff University, as an academic who developed an equation that measures happiness:

    O + (N xS) = Cpm/T + He

If you would like to read more, have a look at the article TelegraphUKHappiestDay6-20-08.pdf.  And enjoy the Summer Solstice, it only comes around once every year!  The summer months also provide a wonderful opportunity to put dreams, resolutions and daily goals on the front burner!  Rather than lazing away the dog days of summer, use some of these wonderful, warm, sunny days to pump energy and passion into your dreams.  What do you have to lose?  You just might have everything in the world to gain - including a big dose of reward, joy, fulfillment, and happiness!

    I Resolve To™ . . . Find Inspiration In Kindness! - Day 171

It's Thursday - Tip-Day for PreMeditated Acts of Kindness.  My 2008 resolution is to 'Show Gratitude' Iresolvetobekind for my blessings by 'Giving Back'. So, why not do something kind today.  Give it some thought.  To get you moving in the right direction enjoy these wise words from Wisdom Quotes . . .

"No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves."  Amelia Earhart

"Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver."  Barbara De Angelis

"Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. The third is to be kind."  Henry James

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless."  Mother Teresa

"Life is short, but there is always time enough for courtesy."  Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Deeds of kindness are equal in weight to all the commandments."  Talmud

"Six essential qualities that are the key to success: Sincerity, personal integrity, humility, courtesy, wisdom, charity."  William Menninger

    I Resolve To™ . . . Take Action On Behalf Of The Environment Today! - Day 170

Happy Summer!  We are well into the heat of summer.  What better time to start a new project to help the environment!  It's Wednesday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.

There are scores of different strategies and daily activities that folks can implement, one small goal at a time, one day at a time, without making major life-altering changes.  The first step, however, is to open your mind and Dare To Dream about what is possible . . . next you have to make a firm, committed decision to 'go for it'.  With that in mind I'm providing some 'food for thought' from Woopidoo - which offers Climate Change and Global Warming quotes from various leaders in government, politics, business, and finance.

"Becoming carbon neutral is only the beginning. The climate problem will not be solved by one company reducing its emissions to zero, and it won't be solved by one government acting alone. The climate problem will not be solved without mass participation by the general public in countries around the globe."  Rupert Murdoch

"I drive a hybrid. Tipper and I got a Lexus hybrid. And we have a couple of Priuses in the family with our children. And I encourage people to make environmentally conscious choices because we all have to solve this climate crisis." Al Gore

"We are upsetting the atmosphere upon which all life depends. In the late 80s when I began to take climate change seriously, we referred to global warming as a "slow motion catastrophe" one we expected to kick in perhaps generations later. Instead, the signs of change have accelerated alarmingly."  David Suzuki

"Business is recognizing the role it can play in combating climate change. Thank God, is all I can say, for there is a desperately urgent need for business to play that role. Your lobbying influence can be substantial, but together, united and in large enough numbers it could prove decisive in turning the tide."  Prince Charles

"We can debate this or that aspect of climate change, but the reality is that most people now accept our climate is indeed subject to change as a result of greenhouse gas emissions."  Tony Blair

"All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it's here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster."  Barack Obama

Focus, Focus, Focus - Give The Boot To Procrastination!

Some inspirational quotes from the Quote Garden and ThinkExist to promote a Proactive Attitude instead of a Procrastinator's Attitude!

"You may delay, but time will not."   Benjamin Franklin

"Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion."  C. Northcote Parkinson, 1958

"Procrastination is opportunity's assassin." Victor Kiam

"Procrastination is the thief of time."   Edward Young

"Do it now! can affect every phase of your life.  It can help you to do the things you should do but don't feel like doing.  It can keep you from procrastinating when an unpleasant duty faces you.  But it can also help you do those things that you want to do.  It helps you to seize those precious moments that, if lost, may never be retrieved."  Napoleon Hill

"Procrastination is the fear of success.  People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success they know will result if they move ahead now.  Because success is heavy, carries responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the 'someday I'll philosophy'."  Dennis Waitley

    I Resolve To™ . . . Treat Myself With A Little Kindness This Week! - Day 169

How often do you treat yourself with a little kindness?  Perhaps carve out a little quality time for yourself Iresolvetobekind_2to relax, daydream, read a good book, see a movie, take a long walk in the park, hit a museum, enjoy a baseball game - whatever your favorite indulgence, have you 'indulged' lately?  When was the last time you gave yourself a nice pat on the back for all of the 'sweat equity' that you devote to your life - all the time that you spend taking care of your family, doing a great job at work, and performing good deeds for others?  Life moves so quickly and so many demands are placed upon us each and every day, treating ourselves with a little kindness is probably not on the 'Things To Do List', but it should be!!  Why not make it priority this week?  It's a wonderful way to re-charge the batteries, maintain enthusiasm for life, and cultivate a good attitude.

It's Tuesday - Tip-Day for PreMeditated Acts of Kindness.

Periodically, I like to remind myself and my readers that it's okay to slow down and simply take care of 'us'.  If you are like me, you're probably thinking that your day is so jam-packed, where to find the time?  My response is this:  "Make time this week for you!"  Even if it's just an hour or two, during your lunch hour, or early evening, or this weekend - schedule the time for yourself.  It may not feel natural right away - 'pampering yourself' - but maybe it's time to change, to reward yourself more often.  If you've already mastered 'Pampering Me 101' - Congratulations, go for it this week!

I propose this:  Today, Thursday, and Saturday of this week carve out an hour or two each day just for you!  Starting this week, get in the habit of being nice to yourself - silently praising yourself for your hard-won victories and successes, and giving yourself a 'gold star' in the form of your favorite indulgence, your favorite passion.  Hit a Dairy Queen!  Have lunch with a best buddy that you haven't seen for awhile.  Hit the swimming pool with your kid.  Have some fun.  Laugh a little.  Kick back just a bit.  Life is so short . . . don't let it pass you by without a little enjoyment.  Take good care of you today!

I Resolve To™ . . . Do One Small Thing To Help The Environment Today! - Day 168

It's Monday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.

If you are not already doing things that will benefit the environment, I urge you to begin by keeping it simple . . . perform just one beneficial action today.  There are so many different options!  At lunchtime, tell the clerk to keep the plastic bag - bring your own, and recycle it again tomorrow, and the next day.  Turn your computer and office lights off when you head out to lunch, save some energy.  Walk to your lunchtime errands, or afternoon meetings, rather than driving - you will get some exercise and reduce your Carbon Footprint at the same time.

Alternatively, on your lunch break brainstorm some volunteer ideas and do a little surfing on the Internet.  There is probably a nature center, sanctuary, or arboretum in your area that could use a new volunteer.  Give them a call and set a date on which you can 'show up and lend a hand'!  Open your mind and 'Dare To Dream!'  I bet you can come up with a lot of ways that you can help the environment without making drastic overnight changes in your lifestyle.  Instead start by tackling one small goal at a time, one day at a time.  Over time, those daily goals just might become lifelong habits!

As food for thought I like to, periodically, share a collection of interesting and informative websites and news articles that I have gradually compiled since January 1 when I made my 2008 resolution to do something each and every day to benefit the environment.  I hope you will find some inspirational ideas!

    I Resolve To™ . . . Stamp Out Procrastination Today! - Day 167

I can do that tomorrow . . .  How often do you say that about both the large and small things in life, the important and the trivial?  How often do you procrastinate, intentionally postpone, needlessly delay, drag your feet, slack off, and habitually avoid taking action.  How often do you 'put off' actions that you 'must eventually perform''?  How often do you shove your dreams to the 'back burner' out of fear of failure, laziness, or perfectionism?   The answer to each question is undoubtedly 'Yes, at times,' thanks, in part, to human nature.  Each one of us falls victim to the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome:  'Someday I will _________."

There is a better alternative.  Why not replace the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome' with a more powerful, positive, and productive daily habit:  "Today I am _______.'  You can do it if you so choose, but you have to admit you are procrastinating, examine the reasons why, build a plan that will enable you to change your behavior, and create a new set of habits by 'doing'.  You're probably thinking "easier Iresolvetopossibility_2 said than done" and you are right.  It is easy to procrastinate.  When you are doing it you 'feel like you are not risking anything'.  When you shove a task, activity, or dream, to the back burner it is 'out of sight, out of mind'.  You don't have to think about it.  You can go on about your life and focus on things that you really want to do, tasks that are more fun, more enjoyable, and less threatening.  Actually, however, the task that you are ignoring is still on your 'Things To Do List', and every time you review your list - or worse, every time your boss, or spouse reminds you that the task must be done - it creates a pang of anxiety, or worry, yet the procrastination persists.  You 'put off' doing the task until the last possible moment, creating unnecessary stress in the race to completion.  Sadly, in the case of dreams, day-to-day life marches on, your dream goes unfulfilled, and you end up with painful regrets for 'what could have been' at the end of your time on Earth.

Instead thinking about it:  "Maybe I'll stop procrastinating tomorrow," do something to improve the quality of your life today.  If you wait until tomorrow, tomorrow may never arrive.  If you're waiting for a 'better time' to act, it may never happen.  Do the best you can with your time, talents, and the circumstances you find yourself in, today.  Make a decision to stop procrastinating and put that goal at the top of your priority list, knowing that it will improve your life.  If you need some help, consider these simple, common sense steps that will result in a plan that enables you to live for today rather waiting for a tomorrow that may never see the light of day:

    1. Find a quiet place where you can think, perhaps your favorite coffee house, or maybe a park.  Pull out your your journal and put your thinking cap on.  Examine your life and your daily habits.  Make a list of all the things, large and small, that you are postponing.  For instance:  Tomorrow I will begin saving money for an emergency fund.  Tomorrow I will plan that dream trip to Italy.  Tomorrow I will go back to school and finish my college degree.  Tomorrow I will write my novel.  Tomorrow I will begin an exercise program.  Tomorrow I will make peace with my family.  You get the idea.  Develop a comprehensive list.
    2. Examine each item on your list and ask yourself 'why' you are procrastinating.  What is standing in the way of starting, and finishing, each task on your list?  Some tasks are mandatory, yet you delay:   Perhaps you are postponing a work project because it is something that you are fully qualified to do, but it's not a job that you enjoy doing, so you are dragging your feet.  Some tasks invoke fear, so you hold back:   You are worried that you don't have the skill, or ability, to write that novel you've always dreamed about; or perhaps your exercise program didn't provide results quick enough, so you gave up.  Some tasks take a lot time and loads of sweat equity:  Perhaps you want to tackle that long list of home improvement projects, but you never seem to find enough time, or energy.  Some tasks involve resources you don't believe you possess:  Perhaps you want to begin saving for retirement, but you're living paycheck-to-paycheck, so you're waiting until your finances improve.  There are so many scenarios, each one unique to each individual.  What is important is that you draw an accurate picture of your own life.
    3. Admit that you are procrastinating and make a decision to change today.  Make a promise to yourself to stop procrastinating, and to replace that bad habit with a good, proactive habit:  Today I am tackling my dreams and responsibilities with enthusiasm and pride.
    4. Recognize that you cannot immediately tackle every item on your list.  Prioritize the tasks and dreams.  Which one can you tackle right now - and finish today?  Start with that task.  It's an easy 'win'.  Then, knock off all the quick, easy 'Things To Do', rapidly, one after another, as soon as is reasonably possible; it will shorten your list and allow you to focus on the tougher tasks.  It will also send you down the path toward building a new, healthier habit:  Proactive vs. ProcrastinateThis effort will contribute to your confidence, self esteem and momentum, as you prioritize and tackle, one-by-one, all long-range, labor-intensive tasks on your list.
    5. Study your list and determine which items are time sensitive and must be handled, sooner rather than later, then set up a timeline and tackle them based on their deadlines.  Comb through your list and pull out your cherished dreams, and determine which one invokes passion, interest, and desire.  Make a firm decision today to pursue that dream because it is something that you would love to do.  Put that dream at the top of your priority list for the next 12 months - then do your homework about what it will take to fulfill your dream, build a plan, and tackle one small goal, one day at a time for one full year.
    6. Acknowledge that you have embarked on a new journey - a healthier journey that will lead to joy, reward, achievement, and fulfillment.  You are reducing stress and worry tied to putting off your responsibilities and dreams.  You are letting go of all the 'excuses' you have been making.  You are ready to make some mistakes, to learn from them, and to let them go.  You are ready to confront your fears and overcome them.  You are ready to tackle your responsibilities today, rather than waiting for tomorrow.  You are ready to begin living your dream today rather than hoping for a better day that may never arrive.  You are ready, now do it!

Each one of us has the power of 'choice'.  We can be conscious of the way we have been living, and make a conscious decision to change, to replace a bad habit with a new and better one, and to use all of our God-given talents, skills, and knowledge to achieve, create, learn, and succeed.

There is no better day than today to take action.  Being 'perfect' is impossible, so lower the bar to something that is more reasonable and realistic - aiming high and inviting challenge is possible and do-able.  Simply show up and make a promise to do the very best - nothing more, nothing less.  Be grateful for 'today', make the most of it, and make it count!

    I Resolve To™ . . . Make Quality Time For My Dreams Today! - Day 166

Happy Saturday!  It's time to put the work week behind us, take a deep breath, grab a cup of coffee, Iresolvetodo_2 and kick back just a bit.  The weekend is a wonderful opportunity to 'make quality time' for dreams, resolutions and daily goals.  Even if there aren't always enough hours in a day to devote true quality time to our passions during the week, I view the weekend as a second chance of sorts.  I make a point each and every weekend to do a comprehensive 'Check-In'.  I pull out my journals, notes, calendar, and timelines, and I review the status of where I'm at with my overall plan - what I've achieved and what I intend to achieve.  I braintorm fresh ideas and make course corrections when necessary.

If you want to achieve a dream, reviewing the status of your pursuits weekly is as important as doing the actual 'work' on a day-to-day basis.  If you don't have a strong plan and a thorough timeline, it's tough to know where you're headed next.  A plan and a timeline enables you to move forward with confidence and conviction.  It takes the guess work out of your efforts.

I try to work on my dreams every day even if it's nothing more than working in my journal, planning, Iresolvetorevolutionary and reviewing the status of my activities.  I also do a Daily Check-In every morning, in an effort to keep my dreams front and center and to remind myself of what I hope to achieve that day.  You would be amazed at how much you can achieve in a year by devoting just 30-minutes, or a hour each day to your dreams, resolutions and daily goals.  Seldom do we make as much progress as we would hope, but progress is progress, and I make a point to be grateful for every step that moves my plans forward rather than beating myself up if I don't hit milestones as quickly as I would prefer.

Recently I had to undergo major surgery for an unexpected medical condition, and 'yes' that has slowed my pace just a bit, but that's okay.  My momentum and enthusiasm is still alive and well - and I am moving forward!  Here's the status of my efforts this week:

    1. Training for my October 3-Day walk was halted May 27, but I walked a mile yesterday, and it felt great!  I plan to be walking 5-7 miles in July and hit the 15-mile marker by Labor Day.  I'm also looking forward to returning to daily swimming, biking, stretching, Yoga, and weights in July, which will help with my stamina and endurance.  So all is well.  This week, I'm planning more walks, at least a mile every other day.  I sent out my second fundraising solicitation and have reached 68-percent of my goal, so fundriaisng is on track.  I'm reviewing my gear list for the walk and camping and will begin gathering gear in July, so that I have everything I need by Labor Day.
    2. Volunteering at a Virginia Horse Farm is shifting to the Fall due to stamina issues.
    3. Global Warming effort is on track.  I'm researching and posting again - and I have my 10-point 'To Do List' of goals for the summer.  I'm ordering my canvas bags for grocery shopping on Monday.  I did an article about the 'end of incandescent light bulbs, which are being phased out in starting in 2012.  I reviewed my EarthLab Pledges, and did a comprehensive post about things folks can do to reduce their Carbon Footprint, and I began phoning potential friends and charities that might be interested in using some of my recycled magazines.  Will continue working through my list, then brainstorm more 'Things To Do'!
    4. PreMeditated Acts of Kindness - a daily effort to be conscious about my words, gestures and actions (how I treat others and myself) is on track.  It is becoming a habit to be much more conscious of what I am saying and doing - and to try to insert more kindness toward others into each and every day.

So . . . I feel great about the status of my efforts.  There's always room for improvement, but I'm satisfied with progress this week.  I'm also moving forward with my I Resolve To . . . E-Book and Book about 'How To Achieve New Year Resolutions', and more Resolutionista Gear Designs will soon be launched.  All of these efforts, I'm happy to say, are a true labor of love.

    I Resolve To™ . . . Make A 'June Resolution' To Protect The Environment - Day 165

We are 165 days into 2008, but that doesn't mean that it is too late to make a New Year Resolution to protect and preserve the environment.  It's not too late to build a plan that will enable you to take action - one goal at a time, one day at a time for the remainder of 2008, thus creating new habits that are with you for good if you so choose (studies show that it takes approximately 30 days to create a new habit; just imagine what you can do in the next 201 days if you set your mind to it).  It's not necessary to wait for January 1, 2009 . . . instead get going today!  Make a 'June Resolution' to help the environment and spend the warm sunny days of summer building momentum!

If you're ready to get started, but not sure where to begin, surf over to the I Resolve To . . . Toolkit where you'll find an easy to use system, and common sense tips for fulfilling dreams, keeping New Year Resolutions and achieving goals:

One of my favorite websites, EarthLab, is a great source of information about Climate Change and it provides a wonderful module that enables participants to measure their personal Carbon output, and make and track pledges in six categories:  home, energy, commute, travel, work, and lifestyle.  Some of the pledges that I have made and kept, or are on my list of 'Things To Do' (both from EarthLab, and other websites that I have used to build my plan) include:

    1. Use fewer plastic bags & buy canvas bags for grocery shopping.
    2. Recycle plastic bags.
    3. Plant a tree.
    4. Drive fewer vehicle miles and consolidate errands and appointments.
    5. Wash clothes with cold water.
    6. Recycle magazines by donating to charitable organizations, friends, etc.
    7. Turn lights off when leaving the room.
    8. Turn computers off when not in use.
    9. Replace incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs.
    10. Recycle newspapers, plastic bottles, cans, etc.
    11. Mulch leaves and yard waste.
    12. Use minimal water on lawn.
    13. Work from home an average 3-4 days each week.
    14. Take the stairs rather than elevators and escalators.
    15. Turn off water while brushing teeth.
    16. Do regular, on-going research about ways to help the environment and stop Climate Change.
    17. Vote in every election and educate myself about the issues.
    18. Exercise outside rather than at a gym:  gardening, swimming, biking, walking, and running.
    19. Install energy efficient windows.
    20. Encourage others to educate themselves about Climate Change, recycling, and ways to reduce our Carbon Footprints and protect the environment.

    I Resolve To™ . . . Be Nice, Kind & Positive Today! - Day 164

In 2008 I'm urging folks to join me and do the same - to work at being kind because it's the right thing to do, without Iresolvetobenice_2 worrying about receiving anything in return, be it kind gesture or word, though my experience is that kindness shown is usually returned in kind.

Instead of leaving 'kindness' to chance today, why not spend a bit of time thinking and brainstorming about ways that you can help the friends, colleagues, loved ones, pets who pass through your day?  You're much more apt to follow through - to act - if you have a game plan.  Start small.  Keep it simple.  Draw up a list of seven kind acts that you can perform in the next seven days, then do one each day.  Success breeds success; perhaps those kind acts will actually double, or triple, or quadruple.  The point is to make an effort, to try, and in so doing - lend quality, happiness, joy, and reward both to the recipient and to yourself.  Slow down just a bit today.  Join me in really thinking about words, actions and gestures.

To give you an added bit of inspiration, I offer seven quotes, warm words of inspiration from the Quote Garden . . . one quote for each day in which we will try to incorporate more kindness into our lives.

"Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something and has lost something."   H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

"Being considerate of others will take your children further in life than any college degree."  Marian Wright Edelman

"You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late."   Ralph Waldo Emerson

"As she has planted, so does she harvest; such is the field of karma."   Sri Guru Granth Sahib

"My actions are my only true belongings.  I cannot escape the consequences of my actions.  My actions are the ground upon which I stand."  Thich Nhat Hanh

"If you want to be happy, be. "  Leo Tolstoy

"Happiness is never stopping to think if you are."  Palmer Sondreal

Remember:  I Resolve To . . . Achieve My New Year Resolutions, One Resolution, One Day At A Time For One Year.  It's your choice.  Do it today. Turn your resolution into reality in five simple, common sense steps:  Dare To Dream, Decide, Define, Develop A Plan, and Do It Daily. I Resolve To™ . . . Keep My Eye On The Prize This Summer - Day 163

If you want to fulfill a dream, keep a New Year Resolution, or achieve a daily goal it helps enormously to choose something about which you have great passion, deep desire and intense interest - something that you want to keep with you for a long, long time.  For many years, I have made it a practice to choose dreams, resolutions and daily goals that I can keep with me for life.  I call them Lifetime Resolutions

Equally important if you truly want to succeed you have to keep your eye on the prize:  'Specifically, what you intend to achieve, and why - not just today, but each and every day'.  I preach about one resolution, one day at a time for one reason:  it works.  It takes the drudgery and guess work out of daily achievement.  When you are working toward a dream, a resolution, a goal that you adore - it's no longer work, it's not something that you 'must do' because you think it is something that you 'should do', or because 'it is good for you'.  It is something that you are driven to do out of desire.  It is something that you want to do, and something that you would 'love to do' each and every day.

It's Wednesday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.

In early June, I reviewed the state of play for my resolution to help the environment.  I concluded that I have, indeed, kept my focus, shown up daily, and made progress toward educating myself and my readers about ways that we can protect the environment.  I also have made strides toward building 'new habits' into my day such as turning off my computer when I'm not using it and washing my clothes in cold water to conserve energy.

There is no time, however, to rest on laurels.  There is so much more that I can do.  With that in mind, I know I need to continue to stay organized, brainstorm fresh ideas, hone and implement my plan, and celebrate my wins.  To keep the forward momentum going - I regularly review my 'To Do List'.  I'm re-posting my latest 'Do's' this morning, as a reminder of what I need to do this summer, and as incentive to brainstorm some additional 'Do's' this weekend when I 'Check-In'

At a minimum, I hope this gives you some fresh ideas of your own, and perhaps even fuels your fire to do something for the environment today rather waiting for a 'better time' at some point in the future.  Postponing and procrastinating typically leads to 'inaction'.  Instead, act now, make a decision and a promise to yourself to learn more about what you can do, then build your own 'To Do List' and 'go for it' now, don't wait.

Here is my Summer 'To Do List For The Environment (more to come):

    1. Order I Resolve To . . . Canvas Tote Bags to take to the grocery store (less plastic!).
    2. Recycle Magazines - I'm happily working through my stacks and will donate to worthy organizations and groups.
    3. Walk and Metro more, and drive less, when I am in Washington, D.C.
    4. Promote Keep America Beautiful in an effort to urge people NOT TO LITTER!
    5. Review my EarthLab Promises - a great website that provides great ideas for reducing your Carbon Footprint, and offers a way to track the promises/goals you make.
    6. Do more research on recycling.
    7. Create ways to recycle at home even though I cannot get trash haulers to send 'recycle trucks' to my home in the country.
    8. Research and write columns about the 'end' of Incandescent light bulb, which will be phased out in 2012 under a 2007 energy law passed by Congress.
    9. Redouble my efforts to conserve energy at home:  lights, computers, appliances, etc.
    10. Begin brainstorming and researching steps I can take in the Fall when I finish this list!

I Resolve To™ . . . Perform At Least 'One' PreMeditated Act Of Kindness Today - Day 162

Does kindness come naturally to you?  Is it something that you think about daily?  Weekly?  Monthly?  Or is it something that is totally random.  You lend a hand, express a kind word, offer a pleasant gesture every now and then when the spirit moves, and an opportunity is staring you square in the eyes?  What if you Iresolvetobekind_2 actually give some thought each and every day to kindess?  Perhaps start small . . . with just one act of kindness today.  It's only 9:00 A.M.  There's plenty of time left on this sunny Tuesday to do some good!  And one could turn could lead to another and another!

It's Tuesday - Tip-Day for PreMeditated Acts of Kindness.  My 2008 resolution is to 'Show Gratitude' for my blessings by 'Giving Back'. The point behind PreMeditated Acts Of Kindess is to give more conscious thought to my actions, the way that I treat others - and the way that I treat 'myself'.  In 2008 I'm urging folks to join me and do the same - to work at being kind because it's the right thing to do, without worrying about receiving anything in return, be it kind gesture or word, though my experience is that kindness shown is usually returned in kind.

Acts of kindness don't have to be earth shattering.  You don't have to do anything big and bold enough to to 'win a medal'.  Start small.  Keep it simple.  What is important is that you are conscious about your words, actions, behavior and that you make an effort to 'be kind', 'do something nice'.  Praise a colleague for job well done.  Offer a since compliment on a friend's new outfit.  Ask about his or her beloved hobby and really listen with interest.  Strike up a light conversation with the store clerk that is working so hard to help you out.  Stop speeding up when someone is trying to pass you on the highway, let them pass!  Call your sister or brother out of the blue.  Visit an elderly neighbor and ask if they need a hand.  Send 'Grandma' a nice card to say 'hello'.  Send 'Thank You Notes' when someone gives you something wonderful or does you a favor.  The list is endless.  So many possibilities . . . each one having the potential to brighten someone's day and put a smile on your own face!

I Resolve To™ . . . Fully Educate Myself About The Issues In The Upcoming Presidential Election - Day 161

One of the most important rights that we, as Americans, have is the right to vote.  All too often that precious right - which enables individuals to influence government decision-making through voting - is taken for granted.  In 2008, however the level of excitement, interest, primary voting patterns, and voter registration, has been phenomenally intense thanks to the hard fought race between Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Senator Barack Obama.  I am hopeful that record levels of interest will flourish and grow through Election Day, November 4, 2008 - and result in record-breaking turnout for both Democrats and Republicans.  High interest, heavy turn-out, and a hard fought battle for the Presidency strengthens - not weakens - our democracy.

In the next 147 days I hope you will join me in thoroughly scrutinizing the environmental record of both candidates, at the same time that we turn our eyes and ears to the debate about other weighty issues ranging from the economy and foreign policy to character and ability to lead the country with a record of experience, strength and vision.

It's Monday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.  In 2008 my New Year Iresolvetolivegreen Resolution is to 'show gratitude' for my blessings by 'giving back' and the environment is one of my recipients.

At the outset, I feel it's important to post a disclaimer: I am a Washington, D.C. based political fundraiser - for Democrats - and I have worked in journalism, government and politics for 30 years.  That said, personally, I prefer divided government for the checks and balances that it provides (one-party rule all to often leads to abuse of power and corruption).  For purposes of I Resolve To . . . I will strive to remain unbiased and post a balanced snapshot about the environmental records and stances on issues for both candidates.

To start, I begin with the basics - links to websites for the presumptive nominees.  I urge you to review their records on the full array of issues including the environment, Climate Change and energy policies:

    I Resolve To™ . . . Be Confident About My Abilities! - Day 160

Self-Confidence, self-esteem and self-worth . . . all are vitally important qualities in a person's day-to-day life.  They are also important qualities that contribute to (or detract from) the successful pursuit of dreams, New Year Resolutions and daily goals.  I am not a trained Psychologist and this column is not in any way intended to serve as clinical/medical advice for emotional or mental issues.  For that kind of advice, I urge readers to visit with a licensed Physician, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist.  I write strictly about my  common sense observations about the importance confidence and self-esteem when working to achieve dreams, resolutions and goals.

In my experience, when I pursue a dream, I must step out of the so-called 'comfort zone', and learn and try new things, which in turn leads to mistakes, and occasional failures.  It takes courage, conviction, strength, and commitment to fulfill a dream (and face and overcome fears, potential mistakes and failures).  Based on that, it would seem that dreams are not meant for the 'weak of heart'.  Some folks, in fact, give up too early, or don't try at all, because of fear of failure, concern that they don't Iresolvetolivedreampossess the knowledge and skills to succeed, or unrealistic expectations (setting the bar too high, or trying to do too much too fast, for instance).

At the outset if you want to increase the odds of succeeding it helps to have a simple system - a step-by-step process - that will guide you on your journey. I advocate a simple five-step system.  In the beginning you have to open your mind to the possibility that you can and will succeed - suspend disbelief - you must Dare To Dream.  You must make a committed Decision to 'go for it', and be willing to work hard day after day.   You must begin with a dream about which you have intense passion, interest and desire, and Define specifically 'what you intend to achieve', and know 'why and how you are going to achieve it'.  Being specific enables you to can Develop A Plan that lays out all the necessary steps (and that means you have to do your homework throughout your journey because your plan will grow and change as you grow, change and succeed).  Finally, you must Do It Daily - achieve one small goal after another until you fulfill your dream!

What I describe above is a simple, common sense formula for success - a guide.  Beyond that, a person's ability to succeed hinges on his or her level of confidence and self-esteem.  All too often folks short-change themselves.  They don't give themselves credit for the skills, knowledge, wins, triumphs, successes, that they have chalked up in life, and can serve as important assets when pursuing a dream.  If you are thinking about 'going for the gold' - launching a dream - factor in the accomplishments that you begin the process with - and remind yourself, regularly, about each and every victory, each and every accomplishment that you rack up after you begin the journey toward achieving your dream.  Celebrate those wins often . . . they will help you to build confidence and self-esteem.

Success does breed success.  Momentum, enthusiasm, confidence, excitement builds - one small step at a time, one day at a time, one small achievement at a time - and ultimately, collectively, results in a rich, rewarding, beautiful tapestry that is you and your dream.  Be positive, patient, passionate, and persistent as you make your journey.  Most importantly, believe in yourself, your talents, your dream, and never give up.  The joy, reward and fulfillment will far outweigh any pain and hardship that you must endure if you persist and ultimately capture your dream.

Thank You Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton . . .

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has long been an inspirational figure for me.  She fought a courageous battle to serve as America's 'Commander In Chief' - and first woman President.  She suspended her race for the White House today with grace and dignity during an address to supporters at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

I'm one her 18 million supporters.  I'm thankful for all that she has done and confident that she will continue to make a difference.  I share part of Senator Clinton's speech because it gives me hope, courage, and conviction to continue pursuing my dreams with patience, passion, and perseverance . . .

". . .To those of you who are disappointed that we couldn't go all of the way, especially the young people who put so much into this campaign, it would break my heart, if in falling short of my goal, I in any way discouraged any of you from pursuing yours.

Always aim high, work hard, and care deeply about what you believe in.  And, when you stumble, keep faith.  And, when you're knocked down, get right back up and never listen to anyone who says you can't or shouldn't go on.

As we gather here today in this historic, magnificent building, the 50th woman to leave  this Earth is orbiting overhead.  If we can blast 50 women into space, we will someday launch a woman into the White House.

Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it's got about 18 million cracks in it . . .

. . . And the light is shining through like never before, filling us with the hope and sure knowledge that the path will be a little easier next time.

That has always been the history of progress in America.  Think of the suffragists who gathered at Seneca Falls in 1848 and those who kept fighting until women could cast their votes.

Think of the abolitionists who struggled and died to see the end of slavery.  Think of the civil rights heroes and foot soldiers who marched, protested, and risked their lives to bring about the end of segregation and Jim Crow.

Because of them, I grew up taking for granted that women could vote and, because of them, my daughter grew up taking for granted that children of all colors could go to school together.

Because of them, Barack Obama and I could wage a hard-fought campaign for the Democratic nomination.  Because of them and because of you, children today will grow up taking for granted that an African-American or a woman can, yes, become President of the United States.  And so . . .

. . . When that day arrives, and a woman takes the oath of office as our President, we will all stand taller, proud of the values of our nation, proud that every little girl can dream big and that her dreams can come true in America.

And all of you will know that, because of your passion and hard work, you helped pave the way for that day.  So I want to say to my supporters:  When you hear people saying or think to yourself, "If only", or "What if", I say, please don't go there.  Every moment wasted looking back keeps us from moving forward.

Life is too short, time is too precious, and the stakes are too high to dwell on what might have been.  We have to work together for what still can be.  And that is why I will work my heart out to make sure that Senator Obama is our next President.

And I hope and pray that all of you will join me in that effort."

    I Resolve To™ . . . Do A Weekly Check-In On My Gratitude Resolution - Day 159

Happy Saturday!  I hope you are heading into a wonderful weekend.  Even if you have chores and responsibilities, why not consider carving out some time out just for you - and for your dreams, resolutions and daily goals.  I was reminded last Sunday - on June 1 - that we are nearing the six month point in 2008.  That means there is still loads of time to devote to dreams.  If your New Year Resolution record has been somewhat lackluster, no more excuses!  January 1, and the winter weather is a distant memory, and three sun-filled months of summer are stretched before us.  It's time to motivate.  Pull out a notebook, a calendar and begin plotting and planning how you can take your dream to the next level.  If you've been working tirelessly on your daily goals - Congratulations!

Personally, I do daily Check-Ins, as well as a longer Check-In each weekend.  Reviewing my notes and Iresolvetoblessings_2 timelines, brainstorming new ideas, and making timely course corrections helps to keep me on track.  Recently, however, I was Overtaken By Events - some serious health issues that came from nowhere and prompted surgery, but now I'm on the mend, and am so relieved to be easing back into my daily routines and lifestyle.  As you might guess by reading I Resolve To . . . I'm not one to sit still for long, too many places to go, people to see, and things to do!  But I know when it comes to health, how important it is to back off, slow down, and listen to doctors because, at the end of the day, good health is truly one of the most important things in life.

With that in mind I'm shifting a few deadlines, but fortunately most of what I had hoped to achieve in 2008 will happen pretty much on schedule.  I fully intend to move my Gratitude Resolution forward.  In 2008, I committed to 'showing gratitude for all that I have and all that I am by giving back in four areas of my life'

Here's the status and next steps:

    1. Training for my 60-mile walk is on hold until after the July 4th weekend, so that I can recover from surgery. I plan to increase my walking the next few weeks to a mile (keep in mind I began training doing 5 mile walks), so it will be mid-July before I begin stepping up the pace (I know I need to be patient).  In August I plan to begin increasing gradually from 5-to-10-to-15 miles.  In July I can also begin swimming biking, stretching, and working out with weights again, so my stamina should be where it needs to be by the October walk.  I'm 2/3 of the way to my fundraising goal, and another round of emails are going out in June (hope to wrap the fundraising up in July).  Finally, I need to study my gear list, and round up everything I will need to camp and walk (another July deadline).
    2. Volunteering at a Virginia Horse Farm is shifting to the Fall due to stamina issues.
    3. Global Warming effort is on track.  I'm researching and posting again - and I have my 'To Do List' of goals for the summer (investing in canvas bags for the grocery store, recycling magazines etc.)
    4. PreMeditated Acts of Kindness - a daily effort to be conscious about my words, gestures and actions (how I treat others and myself) is on track.  It is becoming a habit to be much more conscious of what I am saying and doing - and to try to insert more kindness toward others into each and every day.

So, despite a few setbacks, I'm so happy to be sitting here writing right now.  I miss my creative projects when I'm away.  Most importantly, I am counting each and every blessing, including my health, family, friends, and business.  I'm taking absolutely nothing for granted and am grateful for everything that I have in my life and everything that I am . . . And I wish you nothing but good fortune today and in months and years to come.

I Resolve To™ . . . Learn More About The Fate Of The Ordinary Light Bulb - Day 158

A reader wrote to me today inquiring about the fate of the incandescent light bulb.  Apparently, in trying to purchase a certain kind of light fixture, this reader discovered that the fixture base was being phased out because it used standard incandescent light bulbs (and likely could not accomodate an energy efficient bulb).  As promised, I did some research in response to her questions and, yes, standard incandescent light bulbs are being phased off the U.S. Market beginning in 2012 under an energy law approved by Congress late in 2007.

It's Friday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.  In 2008 my New Year Givetheboot_8 Resolution is to 'show gratitude' for my blessings by 'giving back' and the environment is one of my recipients.  I dedicate three columns each week to news and information about small, daily steps we can take to reduce our Carbon Footprints.  Consider the huge, positive, long-range impact on the environment if each one of us performs 'habitual' actions - like driving fewer miles, using more energy efficient light bulbs, and turning off lights when we leave rooms.  My goal, as an individual, is to urge others to follow my lead, and take a few small steps each and every day toward protecting the environment.

A lot of folks are probably in the dark about the fate of the light bulb.  I was until this reader dropped me a note.  According to a U.S. News & World Report article posted on December 19, 2007, incandescent light bulbs are being phased out to reduce electricity costs:

"Moving to more efficient lighting is one of the lowest-cost ways for the nation to reduce electricity use and greenhouse gases. In fact, it actually will save households money because of lower utility bills. Ninety percent of the energy that an incandescent light bulb burns is wasted as heat. And yet, sales of the most common high-efficiency bulb available—the compact fluorescent (CFL)—amount to only 5 percent of the light bulb market. Earlier this year, Australia became the first country to announce an outright ban by 2010 on incandescent bulbs. The changeover in the United States will be more gradual, not mandated to begin until 2012 and phased out through 2014. However, don't be surprised if some manufacturers phase out earlier...."

If you're interested in learning more about the phase out, here are additional website links and articles:

    I Resolve To™ . . . Recruit Others To Be Consciously Kind - Day 157

Don't leave kindness to chance today.  When we sleepwalk through life, leaving thoughts, words and gestures to chance, then acts of kindness become an afterthought.  While 'random acts of kindness' are wonderful, help others, and promote a warm sense of goodwill - they are just that:  random, which leaves Iresolvetobekind_2 them totally to chance, easy to overlook, easy to forget.  Consider increasing the number of good acts and goodwill by being more conscious of your behavior this week.

It's Thursday - Tip-Day for PreMeditated Acts of Kindness.  My 2008 Resolution is to 'Show Gratitude' for my blessings by 'Giving Back'. The point behind PreMeditated Acts Of Kindess is to give more conscious thought to my actions and the way that I treat others - and the way that I treat 'myself'.  In 2008 I'm urging folks to join me and do the same - to work at being kind because it's the right thing to do, without worrying about receiving anything in return, be it kind gesture or word, though my experience is that kindness shown is usually returned in kind.

In 2008 I have been examining my life, looking for ways in which I can improve my behavior toward others and ways in which I can lend a little happiness to the lives of others.  I've scrutinized my weaknesses.  I know I can be impatient and can become rude with cable and telephone vendors who make it impossible to report troubles, are slow to react and respond, and who have downright poor customer service.  I am working hard to be polite and kind to the customer service representatives even when their companies are driving me crazy.  I am also working to be a 'kind driver' allowing others to merge, and driving carefully, within the law.  If you are acting crazy on the road near, or behind me, I assure you, I will move as far out of your way, as fast as I possibly can.

Those are just two areas of my life that I am trying to improve - for my benefit because it makes me happy to help others - and because my actions words and gestures can improve, or even 'make' someone's else's day(s), whether it be a loved one, colleague, stranger, pet, or friend that I am helping.

I challenge you on this Thursday to examine your own life.  Are there areas that you can improve, and in so doing, will help someone else?  Are there small things that you can do, or say, that would make someone else happy?  If each one of us is a little more conscious of being 'kinder' consider the huge impact that could have at home, at work, and in our communities.  I know I feel wonderful when I'm kind and I make someone's day.  Alternatively, I'm ashamed when I'm rude or inconsiderate.  Why not do as I am doing: weigh the two, kindness vs. rudeness.  Which hat would you rather wear?

I'm choosing kindness today.  I know could 'mess up' and behave badly.  But I will be conscious of that bad behavior and will try to do better, today, tomorrow, the next day.  There is always a new day in which we can try again to live up to our potential, our dreams, our beliefs.  Join me - try on the kindness hat for the day.  What do you have to lose?  Consider what you, and others you touch, could gain . . .

I Resolve To™ . . . Get Revved Up About My Resolution To Help The Environment This Summer - Day 156

New Year's Day 2008 is now a long distant memory . . . and New Year's Day 2009 is 210 days away.  If you made resolutions to benefit the environment, but haven't acted on them, you don't need to wait seven months to get busy.  Why not view the glass as half full rather than half empty.  Instead of regretting time wasted, just think of how much you can accomplish in the next seven months.  And you don't need to make huge, uncomfortable lifestyle changes at at once - you could start small  - one goal, one day at a time.

It's Wednesday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.  In 2008 my New Year Iresolvetolivegreen Resolution is to 'show gratitude' for my blessings by 'giving back' and the environment is one of my recipients.

During the first half of 2008, I've done weekly research about ways to reduce your Carbon Footprint, Earth Day, Arbor Day, recycling, and why it's important to reduce plastic bag use.  I'm re-posting, today, the links I've gathered throughout the year to interesting and useful websites and articles in the hope that it will help to motivate you in the direction of Resolutions that will help to preserve and protect the environment.  Enjoy!

    I Resolve To™ . . . Remember It's The Small Gestures That Count - Day 155

When you walk through a door, do you hold it open for the next person as you make your exit.  Do you Iresolvetobekind offer a smile to the person behind you?  Small gestures like that are among the easiest ways that we can bestow kindness on our fellow humans.

It's Tuesday - Tip-Day for PreMeditated Acts of Kindness.  My 2008 Resolution is to 'Show Gratitude' for my blessings by 'Giving Back'.

I'm convinced that most folks don't really want to be mean, or rude, or unkind.  I like to give others the benefit of the doubt.  I like to think that they are just rushed, stressed, or pre-occupied with other things when they forget their manners, act rudely in traffic and other places, and come across as being nasty.  I know I feel ashamed when I've been unkind, and I try to do better.  That's one of the reasons I decided to write a column twice each week reminding folks to slow down and really think about how they are treating others.  To keep that good will flowing all the time, it really does take frequent reminders.  While it's no excuse, the pace of daily life can be crazy, contributing to those moments in which we are not behaving in the best fashion that we can, or should behave.

Follow my lead this week.  Remember your thank you's, and excuse me's.  Praise someone for a job well done.  Give a compliment to a friend who looks great.  Do something special for your kid, your pet, your family (when they least expect it!).  Smile at a stranger.  Give someone your seat on the Metro.  Think about the other person's feelings before you speak.  Each one of us can do better - the key is to 'be conscious' of words, actions, and gestures - to stop operating on auto-pilot.  Small gestures of kindness could truly make someone's day . . . and imagine how great it will make you feel!

I Resolve To™ . . . Take A Fresh Look At My Goals To Protect The Environment - Day 154

Sometimes obstacles sprout like dandelions on a warm Spring day.  That's life.  When you're working toward your dreams, resolutions and daily goals you discover that days, weeks, or even months are hijacked by things for which you have no control:  Overtaken By Events.  That recently happened to me with some unexpected health issues that, while serious, leave me hopeful for the future.  I am on the mend and I am full of joy and relief to again be working on I Resolve To . . . It is a labor of love and a true source of happiness.

Sooo . . . I am behind with my daily goals and timeline.  But so what.  I have a plan.  I have dreams about which I have great passion and interest.  I've made wonderful progress and am proud of my achievements.  Above all, I'm ready to take the next steps . . . one goal at a time, one day at a time.  That process will include reviewing my posts and research about things that each one of us can do to protect and preserve the environment.   When you're working hard to make a dreams and resolutions a reality, writing things down is a must, as is reviewing your notes, timelines and plans daily (and if not daily, at least weekly).  It helps keep the forward momentum going when you brainstorm new ideas, forge new plans, and make corrections when you veer off course.

It's Monday, Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'.

In 2008, I've already worked hard to reduce my vehicle miles traveled, replace incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs, reduce my use of plastic bags, wash my clothes in cold water, turn off lights when I leave rooms, and shut my computer down when it's not in use, to name a few of the daily steps that I am taking.  But there is so much more to do.  I hope you will build your own 'To Do List' for the environment for the summer months and beyond.  To give you some food for thought, here is my initial 'To Do List' for June, July & August:

I Resolve To™ . . . Breathe New Life Into My Dreams, Resolutions And Daily Goals! - Day 153

It's June 1, do you know where your New Year Resolutions are?  Perhaps they've been buried somewhere on your desk since January 2.  Maybe you got all fired up, but your motivation only took you as far as Valentine's Day.  Or maybe you've been working on those resolutions in fits and starts.  You haven't given up on them, but they are not yet a part of your daily routine.  Regardless of the status, if you Goforit_2 have a dream, resolution and daily goals that you truly want to achieve, the actions that you take today can set the stage for the rest of the summer and ultimately the rest of the year.

If you have been less than successful don't beat yourself up.  Don't dwell incessantly on what you didn't do from January 1 to June 1.  Instead, pause long enough to assess what you originally set out to achieve, what worked, what didn't work, what you actually accomplished, and what you intend to do next.  Then move forward and don't look back.  Learn from your mistakes, then let them go.  Turn the page so you can begin writing a new chapter about your dreams, resolutions and daily goals in the months ahead.

Resolution-setters often make the process of achieving dreams, resolutions and goals harder than it needs to be because they begin without a process.  They don't have a system that enables them to turn thought into action and ultimately achievement.  Equally important, they don't apply common sense.  Instead, folks begin the journey without doing the preparatory work that is necessary to actually fulfill a dream, turn a resolution into reality and achieve daily goals.  If you truly want to succeed you must have a system - a gameplan - and a dream about which you have great passion, interest and desire.  Alternatively launching your effort without careful thought, research and planning ultimately leads to disappointment.

Preparation, focus and clarity of thought are vital to the process of achieving dreams, resolutions and daily goals.  If you're ready to breathe some new life into your New Year Resolutions, consider the I Resolve To . . . Formula For Success.  It's easy to understand and simple to implement:

Dream + Resolution + Daily Goals = Success, Achievement & Reward

Start with a dream about which you have great passion interest and desire.  Turn that dream into a one-sentence resolution that clearly defines what you intend to do and why you want to do it.  Make that resolution a reality with daily goals - one goal at a time, one day at a time.  For instance one of my Lifetime Resolutions is to exercise daily.  I often can't work out as much as I would like, but exercise is an entrenched habit.  I made that decision long ago and I stick with it.  I don't get depressed if I miss a few days, or if I can only work out 3-5 days (which is often the case).  I know I will get back on track because exercise is a treasured part of my life that I thorougly enjoy.

Armed with the formula, if you are not sure how to proceed, five additional tools, the I Resolve To . . . Do's will help to launch your dream and ensure that you maintain motivation as you make the journey toward achievement:

Don't wait for January 1, 2009, to pursue a heartfelt dream, do it now.  You can never regain the precious time that has already passed like sand through an hourglass, but you can make the most of today, tomorrow and the next day.  Abandon the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome'.  Act now.  Visit my I Resolve To . . .
